8 tips to leave Work at Work When You Work at Home

Two years have passed since the first case of COVID-19 here in Italy and besides the challenges we all went through, this means two years of people who started approaching with working from home, no long commutes, no queue to buy a (disgusting) sandwich at lunchtime and proudly (I can tell) use your own toilet whenever you prefer!

But if you’re one of the millions of remote workers around the world maybe you faced this problem too: how can I switch off at the end of the day and leave work at work?

Here are some tips that can help you really close your laptop (and stop thinking about a lot of stuff that usually makes you re-open the laptop) and leave work behind at the end of the day.

  1. Close all your tabs at the end of the day

  2. List it all out - get out of your head all the things that need to be done the next day

  3. Close Slack or any other messaging app

  4. Clear everything off your desk or table where you’re working from

  5. Turn your PC off completely (if you’re working from your laptop I bet you don’t do this enough)

  6. UNPLUG! (Push back against this “always-on” culture)

  7. Plan a little ritual: water your plants, feed your pets, or read some pages of the book you’re reading

  8. Plan after-work activities

At the end of the day, we need to face that working for ourselves is tough!
So the minimum we can do is to create an extra peaceful environment where to work from.
