Squarespace vs Wix: A Guide for Small Businesses (2023)

If we had been told 20 years ago that building and launching a website had become so easy, we would never have believed it.

And I’m talking about designing and launching a website that can immediately generate sales and revenue, especially for small business owners and freelancers. Crazy!

It doesn't matter what kind of business you have (are if you are a freelancer? Do you have a Yoga studio? Do you own an architecture studio? Are you a copywriter?) what matters is that you want a strong digital presence and you’re finally in the stage of creating your (first) website! Congratulations!

With Wix and Squarespace you can have an high converting website without writing a single line of code.

But we must not be fooled by the simplicity of accessing these web site builders, I always advise my clients who have small businesses or want to launch their business, to carefully choose the platform on which to mount the nascent site: it is important that the interface, SEO, analytics and all those dimensions that revolve around the creation of a website are easy to access.

Therefore, here is a small business guide on how to evaluate the choice between the two largest web site builders currently on the market (and how to make the most of their potential to promote your business).

Squarespace vs Wix pricing

Let's start with the basics: PRICING!
Before analyzing any other dimension, it is important to understand which is more expensive and if it is worth spending so much, especially knowing that you can launch a website at ZERO cost.

Wix Pricing

Wix total price ranges from $16 per month to $59 per month, depending on the plan that you choose.

Squarespace Pricing

Squarespace pricing starts at $16 per month for the Personal plan to $49 per month.

Squarespace vs Wix SEO

I have some good news and some bad news for you.

The good news is that both platforms offer the basic stuff in terms of SEO, so with a little patience and some online research, you can optimize your website by engraving meta descriptions, meta tags, site titles, site descriptions and so on. Also, both offer pretty clear guides on how to get started in the SEO jungle.

Happy days!

Unfortunately, these are platforms whose primary objective is making the design accessable and easy to implement meaning they are not optimized in the google engine, which still prefers the speed of other platforms. Arghh!
But with a little bit of patience and some constant research, I’ve seen clients’ website performing so well that I truly believe you can absolutely crack the code!

Squarespace vs WIX templates

The choice very often falls on the template’s design, especially when design capabilities are limited!

It must be said that Squarespace boasts a limited but extremely curated selection of templates that are famous for being extremely eye-catching. On the positive side, moreover, they are all mobile responsive with text and images that automatically resize according to the screen from which you connect.

Wix, on the other hand, offers a much larger selection of templates (over 800) that are not as visually appealing as the Squarespace’s ones (personal opinion). Here too we find a total responsiveness that allows us to test the design on different devices.
